From Nancy Coggins, Development Director

The Sooner Theatre Is incredibly grateful to have been chosen as one of the 2019 Impact Oklahoma grant recipients! Thanks to the generosity of this amazing group of women, we were able to purchase lighting and sound equipment that definitely helps us onstage. But more than that, it frees up funds in our budget to put where we knew they could make the greatest impact – our educational programs. We have already been able to add to our special needs classes with a “Be My Buddy” class pairing elementary-aged special needs classes with veteran performers from our Ambassador Performance Troupes to learn songs and dances from their favorite musicals! And, we were able to launch our Trama Drama troupe pilot program to work with students who have experienced chronic or severe trauma in partnership with the Norman Public Schools, OU School of Social Work and Center For Children and Families. Our scholarship program also gave $48,500 in tuition and fee waivers to 214 students who would otherwise not be able to participate in performing arts classes last year. While the stage at the theatre may be dark for a little while longer due to the COVID-19 outbreak, our students are going strong, taking classes online through Zoom. Parents are grateful for a chance for their kids to hang out with their friends doing what they love most. We can’t wait to see you at The Sooner Theatre when things can return to normal – until then, watch our Facebook page for daily performances from some of our students, staff, instructors and friends in our Sooner Theatre At Home Series!

THANK YOU for believing in the power of the arts!
